Superficial Burns
Superficial burns tend to have the following characteristics:
• Very painful with redness of the skin and blister formation
• Usually heals satisfactorily with little or no scarring
Deep Partial Burns
Deep partial burns tend to have the following characteristics:
• Contact with hot liquids, flames or chemicals
• Sever pain, skin discolouration and blister formation
• Produces moist and mottled skin
• Heals slowly with scarring, may need skin grafts
Full Thickness Burns
Full thickness burns tend to have the following characteristics:
• Direct Contact with flames or hot liquids
• Produces white, leathery, charred and dry skin
• Destroys hair follicles, blood vessels and nerve ending
• Causes tissue coagulation with little or no pain
