The new BS 8599-1:2019+A1:2026 standard expands workplace first aid guidance by introducing clearer recommendations for AED provision, burns kits, and eye wash kits while reinforcing the importance of critical injury packs and specialist first aid equipment. Importantly, the core contents of existing workplace first aid kits remain largely unchanged, allowing organisations to maintain compliance while gradually adopting the new requirements. The update reflects a continued focus on risk-based first aid provision, helping employers provide the right equipment for their people and workplace hazards

What needs to be in a workplace first aid kit to meet HSE guidelines?

HSE compliant first aid kits contain minimum quantities of the following items, depending on the size and risk level of a company.
